Topic: Window nailing flanges Posted: 11 Jun 2007 at 10:38pm
I found three used Anderson windows at a yard sale for $8.00 apiece and I plan on putting them into a small vacation cabin that we own. These windows are in very good condition except that one of them has its sash cord broken and another is missing its nailing flange. Im not sure if "nailing flange" is the correct name for it but what Im talking about is the vinyl strip that goes around the perimeter of the window and it has small holes in it to nail through to hold the window in to the rough opening in the frame. Anyway, this one window is missing this flange so my question is, can these flanges be bought seperately or is there another way to nail in the window ? Is nailing flange the correct name for this piece ? How are these flanges held in to the window, do they just press into the groove around the window or is there some kind of glue involved ? Ed
ED WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY SASH CORD. SOUNDS TO ME THAT YOU HAVE ASINGLE HUNG WINDOW. IT GOES UP AND DOWN. THE NAILING FLANGE IS NO BIG DEAL WHEN INSTALLING DRILL SCREWS FROM INSIDE MASTER FRAME DIRECTLY INTO YOUR HOME MAKE SURE TO INSULATE HEAVY , BEING A CABIN AND ALL.
